At the BC Hockey AGM on June 22 – 24, the delegate group from the NVMHA Board of Directors(6) voted on a contentious issue about removing body checking in PeeWee A hockey. Our association conducted a survey of Peewee families, as did many other PCAHA member associations, which showed support to vote in favour of removing body checking from this division.
BC Hockey Resolution 2012-14, Regulation 4.02: Bodychecking – " In divisions of PeeWee and below and in Female Hockey body checking, as defined by Hockey Canada Playing Rules, shall not be permitted. "
Through secret ballot the resolution was defeated by a vote of 215 – 235 (numbers to be confirmed). Body checking will remain in PeeWee A for another season.
We will continue to ensure that all players are prepared for the level of physical play involved through on ice development.
If you have any questions on this issue, please contact either Lawrence Smythe, Dan Cioffi, or your Division Director.
