Most jobs at NVMHA are done by volunteers, so we need you!! We need the parents and guardians of our players to get involved whenever and however they can. Some examples of the volunteer roles on a team are:
- • Head coach, assistant coaches, manager, Hockey Canada Safety, Person (HCSP); these are required, rostered positions and are referred as Team Officials
- • Team treasurer, timekeeper, and scorekeeper; these are also required support positions
- • Jersey support, on-ice official payment, on-ice helper, social coordinator, tournament coordinator, photo day rep, skate-a-thon rep, etc; these are some of the additional team support positions that may vary from team to team
- • There is always a role for everyone!
We will contact you when space is available in your division based on the date and time of registration. The earliest registration on the waitlist gets the first chance at an available spot. Generally, space opens up at some age groups in late August or September. Available spots will be offered via email with a one week window for response.
Requests for ice times cannot always be accommodated to ensure balancing of teams.
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate friend requests. Over the years, minor hockey is very much about making new friends and becoming a part of new teams, so don’t get too attached to one buddy you want to play with.
To support our continued success and ensure that the volunteer workload is distributed throughout our membership, NVMHA implemented a Volunteer Commitment Program for the 2023/2024 season. The Volunteer Commitment Program encourages all association members to get involved and provides more visible opportunities for members to contribute to the association.
The Volunteer Commitment Program requires families/guardians to volunteer for a minimum of 4 association shifts for each player registered in a U6 to U18 ice hockey program with NVMHA or commit to one full-time position. Families/guardians are responsible for signing up and completing the minimum number of association shifts or committing to a full-time position to meet the Program Requirements.
At the time of registration, a $200 mandatory fee for each player registered in a U6 to U18 ice hockey program with NVMHA will be assessed and collected. This fee will be capped at $300 for families/guardians with more than one player in the association.
Credits and refunds will only be provided to those families/guardians where all required shifts/commitments are met as outlined under Program Requirements; no partial credits/refunds will be provided. If all required shifts/commitments are met, a credit will be applied to their account for the subsequent year. Refunds may be requested by families/guardians who have completed all required shifts/commitments and will not have a player returning in the subsequent year.
