GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE

You will be delivering excellent customer service experiences by providing high performance dryland training and athletic fitness testing to youth hockey teams in alignment with their in-season schedule. You will also provide dryland training camps, small group classes, personal training, youth consultations, and weight room orientation for facility users. You will promote health and wellness related programs and services and provide advice, guidance and referral services relative to health, fitness and wellness matters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement progressive, in-season off-ice training programs for competitive youth hockey teams, aged 13–17, focusing on performance enhancement, injury prevention, and athlete development.
  • Monitor and manage training volume and recovery based on game and practice schedules; adjust programming throughout the season to accommodate travel, competition intensity, and athlete fatigue.
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with each team’s coaching staff to align training goals, provide updates on athlete progress, and integrate team and individual development needs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to engage and manage large groups of teenage athletes, keeping them focused and motivated during dryland sessions while ensuring safe and appropriate training behavior.
  • Deliver fitness consultations, small group sessions, off –season dryland conditioning camps, and weight room orientations tailored to youth and general facility users.
  • Educate athletes and clients on proper use of equipment, training principles, and fitness best practices.

ABOUT YOU

You are a courteous and effective team player committed to supporting youth athletes and the community. You are reliable, responsive to team, coach, and community needs and excellent at building relationships. You are confident working with youth and bring a sound understanding of athletic development, periodization, and age-appropriate training techniques. You can evaluate fitness levels, develop individual fitness programs, develop and lead small group training programs, and fitness workshops. You demonstrate professionalism and leadership in all interactions.

Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience in dryland training of youth athletes, particularly in a team setting and those with Strength and Conditioning experience. Please highlight this experience in your resume and cover letter.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Completion of a university program and related experience providing Fitness Centre services, including athletic training, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. Emergency First Aid certification or equivalent and CPR Level A. BCRPA Registered Personal Trainer or approved equivalent.
All employees will be available to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position.
This is an auxiliary on-call position involving shift work including days, evenings and weekends. Current available shifts include Monday to Thursday afternoons. The hourly pay for this unionized auxiliary position starts at step 1, $31.97 and ranges up to $37.58 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
